A few Marketing techniques to help your local business

Marketing has become the simplest yet complex form of business in this modern time. Everyone involved in marketing has their own ways of doing things and has opinions on what they think works; despite this, it all comes down to what the customer will see and believe. You must distinguish your demographic and think logically on how to reach your customers.

There are so many ways to engage with customers, examples may consist of:

  • Social Media
  • Posters
  • Billboards
  • Advertisements in Magazines/ Newspapers
  • Flyers
  • Email Campaigns
  • Blogs
  • Referral Networks
  • Cold Calling

When looking at the list above, it might be a good idea to find out what is most practical for your business, and if you’re current customers are attracted by these forms of marketing. A classic example of this would be (on a global scale) Coca - Cola. Coca – Cola do not promote classic Coke on the TV as people know exactly what it consists of and doesn’t have a particular health element; however, Diet Coke is advertised because it suggests a healthier option, which does appeal to people. If people want classic coke, they know where to go, whereas if people want a healthier alternative, then they now know that Coca – Cola can provide that option. Same applies with Coke Zero.

Big companies only target people with their products to people who might think they need/ want it. A classic example of this would be, if you are a local business, looking to make connections with local people, then using social networking sites and Google Advertising for specific areas would be a very smart way to go. Not forgetting the idea of local newspapers and magazines as this guarantees local people will see your information. If you are part of a smaller business looking to grow, again Google Advertising would be a smart way to approach this, with help from email campaigns and referral networks.

Nowadays, so much marketing is done online; you must keep up with your competition and potentially pass it. The best way to do this is to think of other ways to reach your potential customers. However, it must be recommended to never over-do it. Being in a customer’s face too much can push them away, meaning you will not produce new leads for your business. Market smart and effectively.
